DAY 0 | LUANG PRABANG pre trip briefing (D)

Meet with our team for a short sunset ride around Luang Prabang to ensure we are confident for the journey ahead and to get acclimatized to life in SE Asia. We will have a informal trip briefing and dinner at a local vocational training restaurant.

DAY 01 | LUANG PRABANG - Nong khuay (B,L,D)

Today we start with a transfer to the village of San Oudom to Begin or trek to the mountain top village of Nong Khuay. This  remote Khummu Minority village is the perfect serne beginning to very unique holiday experience the 10km trek takes you along remote paths through rubber plantations, farm land and jungle. 

We spend the night in the Village Eco Bungalow a community based tourism initiative developed by Tiger Trail and managed by the Village

 

DAy 02 |NONg khuay - long lao mai (B,L,d)

Day two begins with breakfast with the host family then a 9km trek to the village of Long Lao here two minority communities next to each other  the Hmong and The Khummu, each has a different culture and language and architectural style. 

Long Lao is home to the second Eco-bungalow on the tour and our cosy village home for the night,

DAY 03 | Long Lao MAi - Kuang Si waterfalls- Maung Nan (B,L)

In the morning at 7 am trek 9km  to the Must see site in northern Laos, Kuang Si Falls.  We can have breakfast at the falls and a picture under the cascades. We can collect a picnic lunch before we hit the gravel road. 

Break for a picnic at around 12.30pm half way through the days ride at the side of the Mekong River. We arrive in Nan at around 5pm for a quiet evening in a local guesthouse and a classic Laos dinner at one of the local eateries.

(Possible overnight extension at the Elephant conservation centre in Sayaboury is available)

DAY 04 | MUANG Nan- kasi (B,L)

Today we tackle the highest road in Laos climbing over 2000 meters the highest point is 1900m. We can stop for a break at the top to take in the view. (optional transfer to take out the sting of the mountain).

Not for the faint-hearted but the views over Kasi are unforgettable. be very careful on the descents as the roads are poor with many deep pockets of sand and dirt.

DAY 05 | KAsi - Muang Maet (B,L)

Start the day with strong coffee and a danish. You will need it as this is a challenging day. Pure dirt and gravel riding today there are some minority villages scattered on the hillside this is a real remote region of Laos seldom traveled so expect to see a lot of exciting villages. The Majority of the days ride is through a valley with towering mountains on either side.

Muang Maet is a delightful little Oasis with a few guesthouses and good-natured folk we can enjoy the pace of real Laos and relax and rest your quads.

DAY 06 | Maung Maet -Xanakham (B,L)

We ride due south with the Mekong hidden behind the Mountains the days ride is quite open and flat with just a few small climbs. 

We can take a local lunch in Muang Ghi before our final 20km before we jump in the vna and continue to our end of day destination Xanakhan on the Banks of the Mekong River with Thailand visible on the opposite shore. 

Walk the river banks in the evening and take in the local life

DAY 07 | Xanakham - VIENTIANE (B,L)

Our final days ride to the City is 30km of gravel before we hit the Mekong and enjoy a riverside lunch of BBQ fish, in the afternoon as 70km tarmac ride to the city, for those with the power left to enter the city by bike the total distance for the day is 140km.

A good hotel with a hot shower and gentle night life awaits 

DAY 08 | Vientiane City tour and buddah park (B,L)

Up early to beat the traffic and visit the must see attractions of the Laotian capital. We begin with Vat Sisaket, the oldest monastery in the city. Wander amid the more than 6,800 Buddha images and statues that decorate the monastery’s interior as you learn about its well-preserved interior and main hall. Next, travel to Ho Phra Keo, a one-time royal temple that today houses a Buddhist museum of art and sculpture. The complex is known for its extensive collection of Buddha sculptures, as well as for being the original home of the famous Emerald Buddha that now resides in Bangkok. Continue to Anousavali, also known as the Victory Gate or Patouxay, a dramatic arch that bears a striking resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Take a break midday for lunch at a traditional restaurant before continuing to Vientiane’s well-known Buddha Park, first built by a local monk in the 1950s. Wander among the park’s collection of mythological statues, each connected to the themes of Buddhism. If you happen to visit on a weekend, you’ll also observe the numerous locals that flock to this unique green space to relax and socialize.
